Police bs extortionist

Itagar, January 19: Sille–Oyan police on Saturday arrested an extortionist who had demanded money from one Oling Gao, a tive of Sika–Bameng area in Ruksin subdivision.

According to East Siang SP Devender Arya, the arrested person has been identified as Odang Boro of Udalguri (Assam).

Gao had lodged a complaint on January 13 last, stating that he had received a call from an unknown person demanding Rs 5 lakhs in cash, and that the extortionist threatened to kidp him if he failed to cough up the amount.

However, based on intelligence inputs and support of local people, Sille–Oyan PS OC M Bori along with ASIS A Jamoh and DK Pait and others launched a search operation in Jampani, Kemi–Mukh and Oyan Chariali areas, and bbed the extortionist from Kemi–Mukh. "As soon as we received the complaint, we took action before the accused could execute his plan," the OC informed.

Reportedly, Odang himself has confessed to having made such demand. The police have recovered an identity card (as a carpenter) from the accused, issued by the Assam Rifles, Khonsa.
