Police bust extortion racket

Itagar, February 4: In yet another major breakthrough, harlagun police busted an extortion racket operating in the state capital by arresting four extortionists and recovering arms and ammunitions from their possession.

Acting on a tip off, police led by harlagun SDPO J Basar, SI K Dev, head constables I Ngomdir and Toka Abo, constables Thomas Drai, Tashi Tsering, bam Talo, Pradip Das, Tashi Wangchu and T Dulom arrest them and made the recoveries recently, Capital SP Seiju P Kuruvila informed in a release.

The arrested extortionists identified as Tai Tabo (27), Tajuk ngram (24) and Lokam Taro (29) all from Kurung Kumey district and Taja Venia (30) from East Kameng, have been creating a mece by extorting money from renowned businessmen and government officials in the twin city of the capital complex.

"Their modus operandi was to commit extortion by threatening the victim and their family members," the SP informed adding, a 7.65mm pistol, seven rounds of live ammunition including a magazine, one knife and six cell phones were recovered from their possession.

A case has been registered and further investigation was on, Kuruvilla added.
