Police conducts verification drive in Shillong

Shillong, April 6: During the month of March, the Special Infiltration  Squad of East Khasi Hills District carried out an infiltration and  verification drive in different construction sites within Shillong  City. During the drive, 386 migrant labourers were scrutinized and their  particulars recorded.

According to police since all are from different states of the country,  intimation has been sent to the District Superintendent of the  concerned districts from where they hailed for verifying the address  and documents.

The East Khasi Hills district police informed that the drive by Special  Infiltration Squad will continue.

It may be mentioned that last year a similar drive was carried out in  Shillong as well as Sohra, Shella and Dangar areas of East Khasi Hills  District. Verification drives were conducted in as many as 13 locations with a  total number of 3,200 persons being examined out of which 252 persons  were found to be without valid documents.

However, the majority of these people had approached police with valid  documents within the seven-day deadline and they were let off.
