Police custody of Dorphang ends

SHILLONG, Jan 11: The police custody of Independent legislator from Mawhati constituency, Julius Dorphang ended on Wednesday. It may be mentioned that Dorphang who was med by a minor girl for allegedly raping her was arrested on the night of January 6 from the Inter State Bus Terminus at Gorchuk, Guwahati. On January 7, a city court sent Dorphang to five-day police custody. “He would be again produced in a court here tomorrow,” a police official said. Apart from Dorphang, eight others have been arrested so far for their involvement in the case. The minor girl had revealed that she was sexually exploited by at least seven men who included one ‘Professor Roy’. Those arrested so far are the waiter of Marvelene’s Inn Usha Deb Barman, Mamoni Parveen in whose house the victim stayed, her husband Sandip Biswa and Parveen’s house owner Wanlambok Khongsit, Tarisha Mary Kharbamon, Mo Lisa Shangpliang, Madan Bahadur Thapa and Kentli Tangsang. However, Wanlambok Khongsit is yet to be interrogated as he was admitted in hospital after his arrest. Seven of the accused in this case have been remanded to judicial custody.  The 14-year-old girl was allegedly trafficked by Parveen along with her accomplices and took the girl to some hotels and guest houses on various occasions for sexual exploitation.
