Police custody of suspected Al Qaeda member extended

New Delhi, Jan 20: A court here on Wednesday extended till February 1 the police custody of Maula Anzar Shah, a suspected member of the Al Qaeda terror outfit arrested by Delhi Police. Shah was earlier presented before Additiol Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh on the expiry of his 14-day police custody. The police told the court that Shah needed to be quizzed to unearth the conspiracy as well as the funding of the terror outfit. Defence counsel Akram Khan, however, argued that the police should first inform the court about the investigation so far since the accused was sent in police custody earlier. Shah was arrested on January 6 by the anti-terrorist Special Cell from Bengaluru on the charge of plotting to carry out a series of terror strikes in the country. He was sent to police custody till January 20. (IANS)
