Police investigating death of Sussex cricketer

London, Jan 4: Scottish police are investigating the death of 22-year-old Sussex cricketer Matthew Hobden. The fast bowler was found dead in a private property near Iverness on Saturday, a Police Scotland spokesman has said.

The death is still “unexplained” but police believe there is nothing to be suspicious about it.

To pay their tributes to the young cricketer, England players wore black arm bands on Sunday on the second day of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

“Sussex Cricket is deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matthew Hobden,” the county said in a statement. “Matthew was an exciting young cricketer with a big future ahead of him. He was a fantastic individual who had progressed through Sussex’s Youth and Academy ranks, having been born locally in Eastbourne.” Hobden took 48 wickets at an average of 39.35 for Sussex. IANS
