Police misbehave with jourlists

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SIVASAGAR, May 7: Police on Friday night allegedly misbehaved with a number of jourlists who tried to enter the VIP line for live coverage of a Bihu function (Spring Festival) organized by ONGC, Assam Asset.
According to allegations, two jourlists of an electronic media were attempting to enter into the VIP line for live coverage, but they were stopped from entering and misbehaved by the police deployed at the spot.
Bihu organizing committee member Satya Das said that directives were issued by the Executive Director of ONGC Assam Asset, not to allow any general public and jourlists as well into Bihu campus. This is not the first time that jourlists in Sivasagar have faced harassment while performing their duties.
Condemning the incident, Sibsagar Press Club vice–president MI Bora urged the authorities concerned to seek an apology. Sivasagar District Jourlists’ Association general secretary Purushuttam Kalita urged all jourlists to avoid ONGC. Another senior jourlist of Sibsagar Press Club threatened to boycott news of ONGC if ONGC did not apologize.
