Police on job to wipe out GNLA: Tynsong

Shillong, April 10:  The State government on Tuesday said the police are on the job to wipe out the Garo tiol Liberation Army (GNLA).

On being asked by Congress legislator Winnerson D Sangma on what measures the State government was taking to completely wipe out GNLA, Prestone Tynsong said, “The police force is on the job and we have entrusted it to them.”

Earlier, Tynsong informed the Meghalaya Assembly that the activities of the GNLA in the State have been firmly checked.

He also said that the State government cannot state on the presence of the exact number of GNLA militants but said no senior militant of the outfit are presently active.

When Congress legislator Zenith M Sangma wanted clarity on the statement made by the Minister that the activities of the GNLA have been firmly checked, Tynsong informed the House that the activities of the GNLA have drastically reduced.

He said that in March around 8 GNLA militants surrendered before Home Minister James Sangma

Tynsong also said the State government is also offering rehabilitation packages to the surrendered militants.
