Police seize 31 bullocks being transported without valid documents

MANGALDAI, June 16: The Mangaldai police acting on a tip off on Monday night, seized 31 bullocks which were being taken to Barpeta district without any valid permit. The police also arrested two traders and four drivers and also seized four DI mini trucks. Meanwhile, police has registered a case (Mangaldai Police Station Case No. 530/15 under section 379/411 IPC read with section 11 (1) (D) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960.  It has been alleged that the smugglers, without any fitness report from veteriry officials, were carrying these bullocks in a very unhygienic atmosphere with eight bullocks in one mini truck for transshipment to Bangladesh through Barpeta district. Significantly, at the time of seizure, the smugglers failed to produce even the receipts issued by the cattle market authority at the time of purchase.
