GUWAHATI, April 30: The Changsari police, with the help of Palasbari police, have recovered around 79 cartons of illicit cigarette worth Rs 80 lakh in the market from a godown owned by a pan vendor, Moni Talukdar, today. On an earlier occasion, the police also recovered a huge volume of illicit cigarettes from another godown also owned by Talukdar. According to police source, a truck carrying loads of illicit cigarette was hijacked on its way from Changsari to Tripura to dispose of the consignment on April 26. Following a report on the incident, the police launched a search operation and recovered the truck from Rampur. Apparently, the police arrested four accused involved with the case including the prime accused, Moni Talukdar.
