Police-ULFA (I) exchange fire

GUWAHATI, May 4: Two ULFA (I) rebels including one Bhaskar Kalita were suspected to have sustained critical injuries on Friday in an encounter with security forces at Kajupathar near Bordumsa along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia district. Sources said the Cobra battalion of CRPF had launched major operation at Bordumsa after receiving specific information that a group of ULFA (I) rebels entered the border area with a plan to cause subversive activities. DGP Kula Saikia told The Sentinel that the ULFA (I) rebels were hiding at Bordumsa area and when the police launched an operation there was exchange of fire. He said besides Bhaskar Kalita who sustained injuries several other rebels were reportedly injured during the exchange of fire. The details of the incident are still awaited, Saikia said.
