From Staff Correspondent

Shillong, Nov 22: Shillong Police has not been able to interrogate Inovi Avika Assumi, Dimapur-based fince secretary of the NSCN (K), after his arrest despite a court ordering a six-day police custody. After his arrest on Saturday by a joint team of Assam Rifles and the police from the city, the NSCN (K) rebel was forwarded to the court, which remanded him in police custody, but he complained about ill health. He was then admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital before being forwarded to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regiol Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Wednesday.

East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Davis Nestal Marak confirmed to The Sentinel that transfer of the accused was based on health grounds. He added that NSCN (K) rebel was detained for more than a year for his alleged anti-tiol activities in galand a couple of years ago prior to his release.

According to the SP, the 34-year-old NSCN (K) functiory’s further indulgence and shift of base led to his arrest from the State Capital.

Marak said: “He has been arrested based on collective intelligence inputs and it’s only a matter of few days that we will get him into our custody to question his modus operandi in galand and Meghalaya.”

The SP added the militant’s arrest has once again proved the efficiency of Shillong Police and its ability to b anyone in its area.
