Shillong, April 24:  East Khasi Hills Police claims that they are narrowing down on the suspects related to the arson last week in Mawprem area while the investigation teams are working overtime to nab the culprits involved in two other arson cases at Laban and Umpling. The cases in Rilbong pertains to Sunday morning petrol bomb attack that charred three scooties and the other is a similar attack on the residence of an Editor of a local English daily.

Speaking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, The Superintendent of Police (city) S Thamar said that the police were closing in so far as identifying the person(s)  likely to be involved in the petrol bomb attack in Mawprem. “It’s only after some minute verification that an arrest will be made in the coming days.”, He said.

On the attack at the residence of a journalist and the Rilbong episode, Thamar refused to divulged anything. “I can simply say that the progress of the investigation is on to nab the culprits”, adding, “we have engaged all our resources to bring those involved to book.”

Stating that the different cases of arson in Shillong city don’t seem to suggest to have any connections, the SP (city) was however candid in adding that the Mawprem episode ‘seems to have some political narrative’. Significantly, Mawprem under Shillong West constituency has witnessed some violent pre and post poll violent activities .
