'Political motive behind unrest in Manipur'

From our special correspondent

Imphal, September  15: Human rights activist and president of the All Manipur Bar Association Khaidem Mani has said that as per information madeavailable to him that some groups are working for the imposition of the president’s rule so that the accord with the NSCN(IM) could be translated into concrete actions. The Congress government led by Okram Ibobi has been against any territorial reorganization and demands which will undermine the elected government in any manner.

Besides all other sections of people are also with the government. He further said that there is no clause in the three bills which were passed on August 31 that will hurt the tribal interest. Under the circumstances it is incomprehensible why some tribal groups are raising the objections. He was speaking in the foundation day function of the All Manipur Bar Association in Imphal on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the government and other sections of people understand that there is no provision in the bills which will be against the interest of any community. It may be that there were some lapses which were overlooked by the government. Time and again the government has asked the organizations to point out any clause or provision which will be against the interest of any tribe in the state. The government after inviting the activists for negotiations ends up with differences on the table. There has been no response. He was speaking as the chief guest in the foundation day function. He told the audience that the government is at a loss what to do since these organizations which are quarterbacking the agitations has not pointed out the portions in the bills which are said to be objectioble. At the same time they are refusing to hold talks with the government on the issue.
