Political tussle and deprivation of Mawsynram

FROM OUR STAFF CORRESPONDENT
SHILLONG, March 18: The political tussle between Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pynshngain N Syiem has made the people of Mawsynram the scapegoat, stated the chairman of the joint action committee (JAC) Mawsynram, Rangsan Sohmat. Alluding to the budget presented by Chief Minister last week, Sohmat felt that the absence of any big schemes to Mawsynram is due to the political tussle between the two elephants in the ruling front. PN Syiem represents Mawsynram in the Legislative Assembly and is on a loggerhead with the Chief Minister on the issue of dual post and the village administration Bill (VAB). Pointing out at the newly announced creation of sub divisions, police stations and others, Sohmat said, “In spite of the fact that Mawsynram fulfills all the criteria to become a full fledged sub division. It is astonishing that it has been deprived.” “We don’t want to agitate but felt betrayed because we have been patient for the past many years,” stated Sohmat, adding, “Let us see on the time that patience will run out of the 60000 odd population in Mawsynram.”
