Poll awareness drive organized in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: As a part of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, which is the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy, an electoral awareness drive was organized in Lakhimpur under the aegis of the District Election Office and the district administration on Saturday. This drive along with a talk programme was held at the Lakhimpur District Library.

Diganta Hatibaruah, associate professor of political science of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) took part in the talk programme which was anchored by associate professor of LTK College, Bhaskarjit Borah in the presence of Assistant Returning Officer Pradip Kumar Doley, ADC Sharangapani Sarmah, DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya, DEO Rinku Boro, professors of various colleges, senior citizens, SHG members, ASRLM’s Jeevika Sakhis and local people.

An awareness rally titled ‘Run for Vote’ was taken out as a part of the programme in which the students of various colleges like North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), Lakhimpur Girls’ College, Lakhimpur PGT College took part. It was followed by a quiz competition among the students of the schools and colleges wherein Dipu Baruah and Rupam Hazarika of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) bagged the first prize. Dhrubajyoti Dolakashariya and Krishnaamoni Gogoi of Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya bagged the second best team of the competition while Ikbal Hussain and Rajeev Chakraborty of Laluk College emerged third. Associate professors of LTK College, Baharul Islam and Manas Pratim Borah took part in the event as quiz masters.
