Poll experts predict hung Assembly

Shillong, March 2: With counting for the Meghalaya Assembly polls slated for tomorrow, many who have voted are eagerly awaiting to know which party will grab maximum number of seats and capture the citadel of power. Even though a single party getting absolute majority seems unlikely, but those who have voted have expressed that whoever comes to power will be able to provide stability for the next five years. Poll pundits have already predicted a hung Assembly in Meghalaya. Veteran jourlist Linda Chakchuak said that the Congress might emerge as the single largest party. Altogether, 15 political parties and 80 Independent candidates participated in the poll battle. The Congress has fielded 59 candidates, the BJP has put up candidates in 47 constituencies while and the NPP has fielded 53 candidates. Paul Lyngdoh, a first time voter and school dropout said: “All I wish from the new government is that it should provide ample avenues for employment.”
