Poll panel rules out revision of electoral roll

AGARTALA, Nov 29: Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of an intensive revision of the electoral roll in Tripura before the Assembly elections expected to be held in February.

The possibility of an intensive revision of electoral roles was doing the round following a memorandum submitted by the state BJP to the commission recently demanding intensive revision. The party alleged that at least 12 per cent of the mes in the voters list either fake or foreigner.  Commenting on the demand for intensive revision Joti said the commission is working round the year to ensure an error-free voter list and summary revision of the voter list is a continues process.  Regarding holding of timely election he said each assembly has fixed tenure and conducting election within the schedule time is the duty of the commission.

Joti was talking to the reporters after a two-day visit of the team poll panel that comprises of Election Commissioners Om Prakash Rawat, Sunil Arora, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain and other officials.  During their stay here, the commission members met the state officials to review the poll preparations and also met the representatives of various political parties.
