Poll Result in Lakhimpur Casts Dark Shadows On Political Career of Stalwarts

LAKHIMPUR: The result of the panchayat poll, 2018 has turned to be a crucial threat to the political career of Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta of the AGP, former influential Congress minister Bharat Narah and present Rajya Sabha MP Rani Narah. Along with a host of political leaders of the State, they also lost the fray being deprived of voters’ faith in the rural poll. They were not only unable to keep their vote banks but were also unable to make their party candidates win in their respective gaon panchayats.

Utpal Dutta, who was the undisputed and popular leader of the regional politics in Lakhimpur district, could not make his party candidates win as gaon panchayat president in anyone out of the 14 GPs under No. 111 Lakhimpur LAC which he is representing at present. Even in his native Bogolijan GP, Congress candidate Anila Morang Pawe won the president seat pushing AGP candidate Binabala Gogoi Tamuli to the third position. The MLA could not ensure the victory of Ramen Saikia, the AGP AP member candidate, in his native GP as the BJP candidate won the seat. Similarly, his vote banks in 9 GPs under the Telahi Anchalik Panchayat, which always played the crucial role to ascertain his victory in every assembly election, were eroded away by the victorious tsunami of BJP and Congress. Despite being the present MLA as well as the general Secretary of AGP, Dutta was unable to reward any ZPC seats under his LAC to his party in the panchayat election.

Similarly, Bharat Narah and Rani Narah also faced political disaster in the rural polls in their native Dhakuakhona LAC due to their alleged greed for power, autocratic leadership and the dissidence against them. BJP took the advantages of these weak points in the rural poll. Boginadi GP and No. 11/ 14 Boginadi ZPC seat, which is the residential address of Rani Narah, were snatched away by the ruling party. BJP candidates Rupali Sonowal won as Boginadi GP president and Nirada Kumabang Pegu as AP member while Reboti Kaman was winner of the ZPC seat. However, Congress candidate Puspalata Narah Padi and Suresh Ngate won the election as president and AP member of Bhimpara GP, which is the native panchayat of Bharat Narah.

On the other hand, AIUDF MLA Mamun Imdadul Haque Choudhury, who has been representing Nowboicha LAC, also failed to influence the rural poll. Even the AIUDF ward member candidate lost the battle in his native ward Daulatpur of Tinithengia GP. On the contrary, Dr. Joy Prakash Das, who is the president of Lakhimpur District Congress Committee, a leader of the new generation, was potent enough to establish his impact in Lakhimpur LAC by making two ZPC candidates winner under Lakhimpur LAC, though Dr Das lost the last assembly election. Congress candidates won as GP president and AP member in his native Panigaon GP.
