Poll scene in lbari heats up

lbari, February 5: Political parties have intensified their campaign for the lbari Municipal Board and Tihu Town committee polls. Altogether 18,870 voters are there in the 12 wards in lbari. The candidates who filed nomition include 12 from ruling Congress, 12 from BJP and 13 from the AGP and nine Independent candidates. The main contest will be between the Congress and BJP. The Congress is confident of winning in all the 12 wards in lbari while the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to give a tough fight. BJP leaders CK Das, Ramen Deka and Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal campaigned for the BJP candidates on February 4. APCC president Anjan Dutta too addressed a poll rally held at lbari on Wednesday where he criticized the BJP–led government at the Centre. He said that there was no altertive to the Congress, either in Delhi or in Dispur. Ministers Dr Bhumidhar Barman and Chandan Sarkar also spoke at the poll rally.
