Poll shadow hovers over M-Tab distribution

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Dec 11: A student of the state has criticised the distribution of tablet PCs by the Meghalaya government. Addressing media persons on Monday, Enlang Sawian informed that being students of class XII of the 2015-2016 batches they themselves never got the chance to avail the Student Digital Learning Aid Scheme which was implemented in 2013 just before the MLA/MDC election.

“Now that the election time is nearing this scheme has resurfaced again and we suspect that this is just a political game of the Congress and MUA-II government to attract the student’s for their vote banks for the MLA 2018 election,” Sawain said. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, will distribute tablet PCs (M-Tab) on Tuesday to class XII students of East Khasi Hills district. Sawian said the Chief Minister that the students were not tools for vote banks and to maintain political power in the State. “Yes we can’t deny that through this strategy of distributing free m-tab to students in previous election you have maged to retain your political power in the state but clearly we would like to convey a message to Mukul Sangma that this time this same strategy will not work,” the student said. He also said that although as students they are not matured enough to participate in politics but they have the capability to decide which party to elect and which party to vote out. “In the past five years, we have alysed the functioning of the MUA-II government till now and we have not seen any legislator taking up the issue pertaining to the education policy in the house,” Sawian said.
