Polling Percentage for Phase-I general elections to Lok Sabha records 67.4% till 5 pm

Guwahati: With the end of the day, polling percentage for the first phase Lok Sabha elections across 9574 polling station in Upper Assam records around 67.4% till 5 pm.

A total of 7603458 electors are eligible to cast their vote in the five constituencies- Tezpur, Koliabor, Jorhat, Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh.

An average of 67.4% of polling has been recorded till 5 pm in the state. In Tezpur 70% of polling has been recorded till 5 pm while in Kaliabor the percentage of polling was around 64%. In Jorhat, the voter turnout records around 72% and in Dibrugarh, it has been recorded 69%. Similarly, in Lakhimpur polling it was polling percentage was around 62% till 5 pm in the evening.

A total of 41 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of polls which took place at five constituencies.

A total of 180 companies of security personnel have been deployed in the state by the Election Commission of India for smooth conduct of the polls while in the first phase 40 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in all the 9574 polling stations towards ensuring free and fair polls.
