Itagar, April 5: Taking up the issue of the environmental pollution control vis-à-vis solid waste magement in the capital region, the ‘Nyishi Ethnic Students of Aruchal Pradesh (NESA)’ has alleged that the authorities concerned have utterly failed to provide a clean and healthy environment to the capital dwellers. In a memorandum to the State Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra on Wednesday, the students’ body claimed that the twin capital city is one of the most polluted cities in Aruchal Pradesh.

“The authorities responsible for pollution control and environment protection have not been able to provide a clean and healthy environment to the residents of the capital city,” the union alleged.

The solid waste magement plant located at Chimpu has stopped functioning within a month after it was iugurated in the year 2013. As a result, the city’s garbage is being dumped and burnt in the open which is causing air pollution on a large scale, the memorandum said.

“The project was recently handed over on certain conditions to M/S Anderson Bio-tech Pvt Ltd, Shillong (the executing agency) which was supposed to run the plant and impart training to the staffs of Itagar Municipal Council (IMC) for the successful functioning of the said plant in future. However, all these have not been materialized till date,” NESA stated.

It appealed to the authorities concerned to look into all the aspects of the solid waste magement plant and re-operatiolize the same to control pollution.
