Polytechnic students demand release of scholarship

SHILLONG, April 19: The Shillong Polytechnic Students’ Union (SPSU) on Tuesday staged a sit-in demonstration to protest against the State government’s delay in releasing their scholarship.

Speaking to reporters, president of the union, Longlang D Malngiang said that the state government is least bothered to meet their various demands and has failed to release the scholarship of 90 per cent of the students.

“We have not received our scholarship of the year 2014-2015 which has put us in great hardship because most of the students here are from rural area and comes from a poor family,” he said.

Malngiang informed that earlier on October 19, 2015 they have also met the education minister RC Laloo in this regard.

“It is shocking that till date the government has failed to look into the matter,” he said.

He said that they also wanted the Wi-Fi facilities in this technical institute which will greatly benefit the students of this institute.

“All these years the state government is giving away the IT Awards and we want that Polytechnic is also included in this award,” Malngiang said adding that they also wanted that their library is renovated and books required are made available.
