 From a Correspondent

Joysagar, Feb 10: The dilapidated condition of most of the important roads of historic Sivasagar town has become the prime reason for frequent road accidents. Within a span of five days, 13 road accidents have taken place in Sivasagar town in which about seven persons received major injuries while many persons sustained minor injuries.
Three major road accidents took place in Sivasagar on February 4 and February 6. One LPG cylinder-carrying truck met with an accident in the Old Iron Dikhow bridge where two persons received major injuries. The accident took place due to the poor condition of the Dikhow bridge connecting road turning. Moreover, in Phukan gar, Melachakar and Gakpatty area also three more road accidents took place in which about seven persons received serious injuries. The road connecting Kalibari and District Veteriry office is in a deplorable condition due to which people face a lot of inconvenience.
Besides, the Bhabani Phukan Road, Bholath Kakoty Road, LKB Road, Khijnor Ali Road, Bishnu Chaliha Road, Gakpatty Road, BG Road and ONGC Colony connecting road, the road of Darikapara and District DTO Office, AT Road, Shankar Mandir Road and Thapatty Road are also in a poor condition due to alleged negligence of the district administration as well as Sivasagar PWD.
Moreover, most of the roads under the Sivasagar Municipal Board too are in a dilapidated condition due to which frequent accidents take place on these roads. Besides, the overall road condition of NH-37 passing by Sivasagar town from Gaurisagar to Demow is poor. The tiol Highway Infrastructure and Development Authorities Ltd. has asked the sub-contractor firms to repair and renovate the NH-37 road for smooth plying of vehicles but the sub-contractors have allegedly done nothing so far.
Neither Sivasagar MLA Prab Gogoi nor Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa has done anything to address the grievances of the people. The Sivasagar district administration is also not taking any measures claiming paucity of fund. The ONGC, Sivasagar Head Office, has been doting crores of rupees to the Sivasagar district administration for all-round development of Sivasagar from ONGC’s social welfare fund. But even after receiving such a large amount as dotion from ONGC, the Sivasagar district administration has not been able to utilize the money for quality public welfare works, alleged a conscious section of people.
