Poor condition of Udalguri hospital irks residents

TANGLA, Sept 16: The wretched condition of 200-beded Civil Hospital of Udalguri has irked the residents of the area. The only 200-beded hospital located at the district headquarter established way back in 2001 lack proper infrastructure and man power.

With only five functioning doctors and 4th grade employees acting as nurses, the people of the region are facing tough time. What is more shocking is that only one or two doctors stay in the hospital campus while few of them resides in Guwahati seeking official or unofficial leave.

The BTC administration and state government have totally failed in health sector of the district, alleged ba Kr. Deka, Secretary of MASS Udalguri district committee.

Reportedly only 106 beds are currently setup in the 200-beded Civil Hospital of Udalguri .The infrastructure of the hospital is in pathetic condition. Though a digital X-ray machine is there many times patients need to move to private laboratories due to lack of X-ray plates. The lack of specialist doctors and staffs in the hospital has left the operation theatre in non-functioning state till date.  Mab Adhikar Sangram Samitti, Udalguri district, APCU, Bodoland Jourlist Association, Sasetan garik Committee and various other organizations and conscious citizens have demanded the State government and BTC authorities to take steps for improvement of the condition of the hospital.
