Poor maintence of Bodofa Cultural Complex irks visitors

KOKRAJHAR, April 28: The achievement book of the BTC has cited Bodoland as the centre of tribal art, culture and heritage in the region. The Bodofa Cultural Complex at Chandamari near Gaurang River in Kokrajhar town was constructed in a beautiful landscape to provide adequate and appropriate infrastructure and facilities for promotion of cultural activities in Bodoland.
Official sources disclosed that the cost of the project of Bodofa Cultural complex was Rs 18.44 crore. It has facilities of institutiol and systematic development of traditiol art and culture of diverse ethnic communities. The cultural complex facilitates promoting tourism and youth welfare and has infrastructure for organizing exhibitions, semirs, fairs and festivas, besides giving a platform for tiol and global interaction and exchange programmes for encouragement of ethnic potential.
Constructed over 87.35 bighas of land on the western bank of the River Gaurang, the Bodofa Cultural Complex has lot of components like administrative building, auditorium, gate complex, Sangeet tak Academy and Art Gallery, museum, open air theatre, sculpture court, crafts village (Bodo traditiol type), craft personnel hostel, supervision quarter, food court, landscape and other facilities.
But the maintence of the complex, which is being looked after by the cultural department of BTC, has disappointed visitors. Many people who have visited the complex said that the complex needed proper maintence to preserve the site and infrastructure. The complex is seen to be full shrubs and thick jungles and most of the structures, including auditorium hall, food court, art gallery and open theatre are in a pathetic condition.
Headmaster of Maigong Bathou Foraishali, Karigaon, who brought school children in the Bodofa Cultural Complex on Thursday as part of educatiol excursion, said they were happy to see the structures inside the complex but most of them were in shambles. He said the statues with traditiol art of various communities were rather impressive but other sectors were not in use due to reasons best known to the authority.
