Poor students in gaon deprived of mid-day meal

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

gaon, June 8: People of northern gaon bordering Sonitpur district have alleged corruption in mid-day meal in primary schools.

Taking advantage of the illiteracy of the guardians in the remote river bank areas, some headmasters are allegedly depriving the poor students from their meal in the schools. The respective officers are also seemed indifferent in this matter. The other reason for negligence by the respective officers towards these schools is that these schools are under Sonitpur district but they are situated on the south bank of River Brahmaputra which creates a communication gap as Sonitpur district is situated in the north bank.

According to information, the Airmari Primary School of Airmari Char which is under Gavoru Elementary Block had received an allotment of 5,225 kg rice for January, February and March. But students of the school alleged that they did not get any meal in those months. Another allegation is that the teachers, including the headmaster, seldom come to the school. Thus, the students are deprived of proper education.

In Doctorpara Primary School too the situation is pretty much the same. According to sources, 4,235 kg rice were allotted for the month of January, February and March. But the students did not get any meal in the school.
