Popular teacher passes away

Doomdooma, June 23: Shiva th Gogoi, who was amongst the few surviving, dedicated teachers of the 50s in this industrial township of Upper Assam, died on Wednesday after a protracted illness. Born in 1935 in a small village called Lengeri in Dibrugarh district, he came to Doomdooma at an early age of 17 years and joined as a teacher in Doomdooma Balak Vidyalaya. Soon he proved himself to be a very popular teacher with his humour and inimitable teaching skill and retired from Maniram Dewan L P School as a Headmaster after 43 years of service. He leaves behind his son and social worker, Samiran Gogoi and three daughters. His wife predeceased him a few years back. His death has been widely mourned by organizations and institutions like Doomdooma Town Committee, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Doomdooma mghar Samity, Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru tya Mandir Samity, Doomdooma Balak Vidyalaya and Shankardev Sishu Niketan.
