Population of endangered swamp  deer in Kaziranga National Park (KNP)decreases

Kaziranga: The population of the endangered swamp deer, also known as ‘Barasingha’, has decreased in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) with a census putting their figure at 907, according to a press release given by the Director of KNP.

The swamp deer census in Kaziranga National Park, which was concluded on Wednesday, spotted 907 of the deer species. Around 350 swamp deer were spotted within eight blocks in Central range Kohora, 156 within four blocks in Agaratali Range, 22 within three blocks in Burapahar range, 323 within seven blocks in Bagori range and 128 within two blocks in Burahpahar range of the park were spotted. Among them, 235 were adults males, 505 adult females and 167 were newborns.
