SHILLONG, Jan 8: The people of the state are still in fear after the 6.7 magnitude earthquake which hit Manipur and other Northeastern states as rumour mongers have jump into action yet again by spreading messages on social media predicting another earthquake. The rumour mongers through WhatsApp (a messaging application), have circulated a message stating that an astrologer has predicted that Shillong will witness a massive earthquake in the coming day. Speaking to The Sentinel, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar said, “When we talk about an earthquake or any such tural calamities we can’t just believe on a rumour which is spreading around we need to get an expert opinion on the matter.” Dkhar also asked the people not to believe in such rumours circulated in the social media. “People should not believe on rumours about an earthquake as it will only lead to fear and misunderstanding,” he said.
