Postal employees stage protest
A REPORTER
SHILLONG, April 27: Employees of Postal office Shillong on Wednesday
staged a one day strike demanding that training should be imparted
towards staff of the postal offices while dealing with the Core Banking
Solution (CBS) and Core Insurance Solution) (CIS).
The Functioning of post offices were affected across the state due to
the one day strike called by employees of postal offices. “The
employees are not against modernization of the postal service however
the roll out of CBS system in December last year has caused undue
hardship to the employees and the customers at large,” said Rogers
Walarpih, divisiol secretary of All India Postal Employees Union,
Meghalaya Division, Shillong (AIPEUMDS). He was accompanied by AIPEUMDS
president Simon Peter Dohling. According to Walarpih, with the increase
in the large number of post offices on CBS, while for the past four
months the Data Centre Closure (DCC) process is executed during the day
time especially during peak counter hours which then results in slow
accessibility of Ficle (a core backing software), throughout the
country.
“The sil’s pace of the Ficle has badly affected public services
during peak hours,” Warlahpih said. He pointed out that that the
agreement signed with M/s Sify for network integration is limiting to
low bandwidth such as 128 kbps to 256 kbps in single and double handed
offices, and this results in hang over and the transactions are
incomplete as it requires at least 1 to 4 mbps and the M/s Sify refused
to increased the bandwidth.
