SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

Silchar, March 8: All India Postal Employees Union Gramin Dak Sevak and tiol Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) have decided to sit for a day long token strike on March 16 here along with their counterparts in the country in support of their pending demands. At a press-briefing, Niam Uddin Laskar, secretary, NFPE, Cachar division, said that as a consequence to their indefinite strike on July 11 last year, the Central Government held out assurance to give due thought to their demands. But, nothing tangible has emerged till date. Under compulsion, the Federation has decided to renew the agitation.

Unfortutely, instead of considering their legitimate demands, the Central Government has not only refused to enhance the pension by 50% but also gone ahead with the move for disinvestment. The Postal Department is fast pushed towards corporatization. Neither the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission in respect of casual and contingency workers nor the other basic facilities of employees have been given any thought. Rather, all these issues have been kept in abeyance. Even the recommendations Chanda Commission are being ignored for which the Postal Department is uble to take any decision. Owing to the indecision of the Central Government on these important issues and the allotment of requisite funds, infrastructure improvement and implementation is stuck up, Niam Uddin Laskar pointed out. All the employees of Central Government will also participate in this tionwide token strike. In order to make the strike total and successful, a campaign has been going on for larger participation. At the press-meet were also present other members of the Federation.
