Poverty forces couple to 'sell' newborn baby

DEMOW, October 25: Sensation prevailed in Demow after news spread that a newborn baby was allegedly sold by her parents because of poverty. According to sources, on October 11 a woman of Dehajan gave birth to a baby in Demow Adarsha Hospital and then allegedly sold the baby to a childless couple. Raju Dutta and Li Dutta of Dehajan allegedly sold their fourth child for only Rs 2,000 due to their poor fincial condition. After 12 days of the birth of the baby, with the help of a local Asha worker, the Duttas allegedly sold the baby girl to a childless couple.
