DIGBOI, Aug 8: Following the tool down of the Powai Learners’ Union of Powai Tea Estate for the entire day on Monday and the subsequent hunger strike of the workers demanding the immediate re-filling of nine vacant posts across the industry, the deadlock between the magement and the agitated Powai learner workers was resolved amicably during an emergency meeting held to this effect at the office of the Powai tea Estate under Digboi Police Station.

The strike was suspended late Monday night after the workers received formal assurance from the magement concerned. According to the president of the union, the magement of Powai Tea Estate accepted their demands and assured to immediately refill four vacant posts in different category within August, two by September and another two by April, 2018 in phased manner. In regard to regularization of the workers, the magement would initiate steps on seniority basis. However, with the amicable settlement of the issues, normalcy was restored in the workplace.
