SHILLONG, Nov 3: The Power department has come under the scanner of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly after PAC chairman Paul Lyngdoh said that the members of the committee are very unhappy with the performance of the Power department.
Taking note of the numerous complaints, Lyngdoh told reporters, “The PAC will summon the officials of the Power department as it has failed to cater to the consumers in a number of ways. This will give more clarity which will show where things have gone wrong.”
Lashing out at the ‘crimil negligence’ on the part of the department over the recent electrocution case that claimed 6 lives including a 5-months pregnt woman, he pointed out, “We want to clearly established that the department has been responsible for crimilly neglecting its responsibility.”
Stating that specific reports will have to be presented on the electrocution case, Lyngdoh, “We will ask for specific report on the tragedy as we felt that the safety of the residents of the state has been compromised.”
Commenting on the compensation in which the victim’s kin will be paid Rs 1 lakh each, he said, “We feel that the amount of Rs 1 lakh is a pittance.”
