'Power of labour unity is the highest power in the world'

Bongaigaon, September 7: “History has evidence that whenever labour unity has fought against anything, it has been finished completely, whether that may be any kingdom or any capitalist class. The present government is also going towards some kind of such culmition point,” said Shib Gopal Mishra,  general secretary of All India Railwayman’s Federation (AIRF) on Wednesday at an open meeting held in Alipurduar of West Bengal on the occasion of the 58th annual and 11th biannual conference of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union.

He warned the government not to go against the interest of labour class people. “Otherwise the days are not far, when this government will be finished for its own deeds,” he said.

The three-day long conference started on Wednesday in Alipurduar where more than 10,000 delegates from entire Northeast, West Bengal and Bihar participated.  The programme started with flag hoisting which was followed by a colourful procession throughout the Railway colonies and Alipurduar town. In the evening, the main attraction was a mass meeting where several noted persons including Rakhal Das Gupta, president, AIRF, Ramani Barman, president, NFRMU, Harbhajan Sing Siddhu, general secretary, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Ratan Lal, Additiol General Mager of NF Railway, A K Swain, Chief Personnel Officer, NF Railway, Sanjeev Kishor, Divisiol; Railway Manger, Alipurduar,  Dasarath Tirke, MP from Alipurduar parliamentary constituency and president of reception committee, Dr Saurabh Chakraborty, MLA from Alipurduar Legislative Assembly constituency and many others were present . The meeting was conducted by Bibhash Joarder, divisiol convener of NFRMU and Pijush Chakraborty, joint general secretary of NFRMU.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Saurabh Chakraborty said that NFRMU had a long history of fighting for the labour class people. “We always support them for their selfless dedication in working for common people. We believe that power of labour unity is the highest power in the world against which nobody can stand. And this is why we are with NFRMU,” he said.

Ashish Biswas, joint general secretary of NFRMU, said that on Thursday delegate session will held and new central committee for the next session would be elected here in this convention.
