Former Satradhikar of historic Syamrai Satra and prominent social worker of yesteryears Prabhat Chandra Goswami died in his own residence at Palashbari in Kamrup (Rural) district on Thursday evening due to old-age ailments. He was 99 years and 6 months old. A kind hearted man, Goswami was closely associated with various socio-religious organizations of Palashbari and its adjoining areas. As a Satradhikar of historic Syamrai Satra, Goswami maintained a cordial relation among every section of the society, especially among the down-trodden section. His association to improve the condition of the flood-ravaged people of Palashbari area was really praiseworthy. 
Witness of many historic events of the country, be it the Freedom Struggle, India's Independence,  Chinese Aggression, Great Earthquake in 1950, Assam Agitation, etc., Goswami vividly remembered many interesting facts relating to these events till his last breath and shared these with others, especially among his grand children.
The large number of crowd which attended his funeral procession reflects his popularity among the masses. He leaves behind two sons, seven daughters along with a host of grand children, great grand children, relatives and well wishers.
