Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yoja launched in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), June 17: The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yoja was ceremonially launched in Golaghat district at a function held at the District Library Auditorium here on Saturday. The programme was organized jointly by the district administration and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department in association with the oil distribution companies of the region.
The meeting was chaired by eminent social worker of Golaghat district, Prakhyat Dowerah and Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, was the chief guest. MLA of Dergaon constituency, Bhabendra th Bharali was the guest of honour. The LPG connections and pertaining documents were ceremonially distributed to 112 beneficiaries in today’s function out of the 12,602 women selected under this scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dergaon MLA Bhabendra th Bharali said that an LPG connection in a household would not only help the poor, but also allow them to live a life of dignity. He also asked the women beneficiaries present to take steps to save enough so as to be able to afford the next LPG cylinder and requested them not to go back to using firewood for cooking.
Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Bothra, while iugurating the programme, spoke about the how this scheme aimed to safeguard the health of women and children in a household by providing them with LPG , a clean cooking fuel, as using firewood caused severe respiratory problems. He further stressed the need to spread more awareness about this scheme so that more women could avail the benefits under this scheme.
Speaking at the function, Ranjit Borgohain, DGM, LPG, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Tinsukia informed that with an aim to make LPG connection more affordable, the Centre would give a support of Rs 1,600 per connection and Assam Government would also provide Rs 1,000 per PMUY connection to the beneficiaries.

Doley, Chief Mager, Tinsukia, IOC (LPG), Binoy Paul, Sales Officer, IOC (LPG), Jorhat, Ajit Kumar Sinha, Deputy Mager, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Coorditor, NRL,  Debashis Das, along with owners, proprietors and representatives of various LPG gas agencies were present in the meeting.
