Pradip Dutta Roy expresses discontent at parties opposing Citizenship Bill

Silchar: If Congress, AGP, KMSS and AASU go on opposing the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 then separation of Barak Valley will be the only alternative. This was pointed out by Pradip Dutta Roy, founder-president of ACKHSA and senior advocate of Gauhati High Court at a press-meet held at his Itkhola residence here on Monday. “Opposing the Bill is not at all acceptable. We are happy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he assured that Clause 6 of the Assam Accord 1985 would be implemented. It is most unfortunate that there are parties and people opposing the Bill,” he added.

Pradip Dutta Roy said, “The report of the committee which has been formed to look after and judge each and every aspect of the Clause will come out in 6 months time. In fact, the identity and culture of Assamese people will be safeguarded and protected. A slip here now will be an open invitation to Badruddin Ajmal to become the Chief Minister of Assam. If this happens, Congress, KMSS, AGP and AASU will be held responsible for it. It is unclear what Congress wants? Is MP Sushmita Dev speaking against Hindu Bengalis? Why is Congress maintaining double standards?

Regarding Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mill, Pradip Dutta Roy said that it is vague what the union wants. “Where is the account of Rs.759 crore rupees which was brought for modernization of both the mills? The union should make it public. Nothing has been done to develop the Valley. Late Sontosh Mohan Dev failed as a union minister. There is no single industry here. Party and people involved in the scam and scandal are taking out rallies, staging protest demonstrations and going for agitations and movements. It is both strange and shocking,” said Dutta Roy.

Dutta Roy discussed coal syndicate and said that police is inactive and perhaps not alert. “Huge numbers of lorries are entering every day. No revenue is being collected and thus it is incurring losses to the government. I would urge upon the police administration to arrest three coal mafias Samir Ahmed, Gulzar Hussain, Zabrul Islam and Rehan Uddin immediately. It will put an end to the ongoing coal syndicate,” he added to say.
