BOKAJAN, January 10: Along with the rest of the State, Bokajan too had a fair share of community feasting at the eve of Magh Bihu.

An advance celebration of Bhogali Bihu which marks the end of the harvesting season in Assam, was celebrated on Sunday at Bokajan Higher Secondary School playground with many communities getting together to showcase the rich culture and tradition, including various traditiol games and sports, folk dance and music.

Apart from the cultural activities and community games and sports, a tradition makeshift hut (bhela ghar) to be lit in a traditiol manner early on the day of Bhogali Bihu, was also erected for display in the event campus along with other tradition equipments. A stall serving smoked pork and smoked chicken was also installed in the event campus.

“The most important aspect of the programme was not just to mark the festive spirit but also to create a better social understanding which is of obvious importance in this multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-ethnic society of ours,” said a senior citizen, Ambeswar Chetia.

Many invited artistes from Guwahati enthralled the audience with their enchanting notes and Bihu songs in the evening.
