Prasan advocates on uniform coaching pattern

GUWAHATI, Feb 11: The renowned basketball coach of the country Prasan Jayashankar felt that basketball players in the North East will be highly benefitted if United North East Basketball Association (UNEBA) is able to provide uniform coaching patterns to the players of their respective states.

Talking to the media person this afternoon at Gauhati Press club Prasan said,“ In the junior level there are very good players in this region. However the players must follow uniform coaching pattern. If we can provide it to them then I feel the region would start to perform very well in the different tiol meets on regular basis.”

UNEBA, a body which was formed recently with an aim to promote basketball in the region, started a one week camp at the RG Baruah Sports complex in the city. Around 80 players of U-14, 16 and 19 age categories are taking part in the camp which is being supervised by Prasan.

Sharing information on the camp Mukut Medhi, the secretary of the Assam Basketball Association, said,“It is the first camp that UNEBA is organized. The basic idea to organize the camp is to find out the talent so that they can be groomed in proper way in the coming days. This camp will be held on rotation basis in all the North East States and second one would start in Meghalaya in April.”

Medhi also said that to give exposure to the players UNEBA will organize a Basketball meet for the players of the region in U-14 and U-16 categories.

NIS coach Kamini Sarma is assisting Prasan in the camp. “In a brief interaction with the media Sarma said, “It’s a good opportunity for the state players to learn basic of the game. ”

He also added: “Basketball need quality infrastructures across the state which can bring dramatic change in the game in Assam.”
