Guwahati: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Samiti today gheraoed the office of the Treasury Officer, New Guwahati alleging that the treasury officer has not released the funds for the disabled people under the Disabled Pension Scheme.

Hundreds of disabled people have gheraoed the office of treasury officer today at New Guwahati Treasury office demanding the immediate release of the funds under the disabled pension scheme for the disabled people.

Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal has launched the scheme of Dindayal Disabled Pension Scheme on January 10 at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra. Secretary of Pratibandhi Suraksha Samiti, Nripen Malakar said that the social welfare department has released an amount of Rs. 29crore 54 lakhs 18 thousand for the disabled people but due to the irregularities of the treasury office, the pensioners have not received a single penny.

Moreover, treasury officer of New Guwahati Treasury office Tabjul Hussain said that they have approved the bill and uploaded in the system but due to some problem the amount has not been received by the disabled pensioners. “We have uploaded the bill in the system but due to some problem it has not reached the people and they have also not enquired during that time for which it has lapsed,” said Hussain.

Hussain further said that there are 133 DDO under the New Guwahati treasury office and around 27000 bills and cheques have been received by them in the month of March.

Secretary of PSS, Malakar said that on January 10, after the CM launched the scheme, 1,11,115 disabled people were about to be given the money but all of them has not received the money and accordingly, the disabled have been said that monthly 1000 rupees will be given to them.

The social welfare department has selected 24,617 disabled people in April for the scheme and therefore, they released an amount of 29, 54, 16,000 for the people but till date no one has received the money.

The Pratibandhi Suraksha Samiti, therefore, demanded to release the money immediately.
