Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) Demands Dues From Government

GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) raised questions about the fund that was supposed to be released in aid of the differently-abled section of the society.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday at the Guwahati Press Club, PSSA Secretary Nripen Malakar conferred about the yearly relief of Rs 12 thousand, that was supposed to be provided for the members of the disabled. The scheme was implemented by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 10, 2019. Malakar stated that during the same meeting, the CM informed that 1,11,115 number of people will be receiving the welfare assistance during the first phase.

Alleging that most of the people have not received the fund, Malakar said that the CM was unable to honour his words. “On the second phase, 24,617 people were considered to benefit the scheme. For the same, an amount of Rs 29 crore 54 lakh and 16 thousand, in the name of dues were released and sent to the treasury. Amidst it all, the election phase arrived and the ministers danced away in eager participation during rallies but the funds did not make it to the banks. This raises serious questions about the whereabouts of the money”, Malakar juxtaposed. “The government is always emphasizing about Digital India, however, a simple thing that can be tackled in five minutes is taking a whole lot of time. I cannot help but wonder what might be taking so long”, Malakar questioned.

The union demanded Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma that the dues be released within a week. If not done, they threatened to resort to all sorts of protests.

Further, Malakar questioned about the vacant posts in NF Railway and alleged that the posts are being conspired to be handed over to non-residents of the Northeast. “If the posts reserved for the disabled are handed over to a non-resident of Northeast, the government should prepare for a remonstration”, he concluded.
