Pravasi Kalashree Award for Guwahati trader

GUWAHATI, Dec 16: President of Greater Gauhati Kerala Samajam, VK Sivashankaran was awarded prestigious Kerala State Pravasi Kalashree Award for his outstanding contributions for the promotion of Kerala’s art and culture in North east, especially in Assam, stated a press release.

The award was announced by Chairman of Kerala Sangeetha taka Academy, Soorya Krishmoorthy on December 15 at a press conference in Thiruvanthapuram.

The award consists of a citation, certificate and Rs.15000.  It will be presented to VK Sivashankaran on the occasion of World Drama Day on March 27 by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy in Kakakkunnu Palace, Thiruvanthapuram.

It may be noted that this is the third time that such an award would be given to individual in the north east region by the government of Kerala.

Earlier KCS Kurup from Guwahati and R.K. ir from Dimapur received the awards. A businessman by profession, VK Sivashankaran is a prominent persolity in the cultural and social circle of Guwahati for many years. He is married to Prasan and has two children, Pavi and Priya. He played a key role in the formation of KS Guwahati Chapter and presenting various programmes as part of Kerala Samajam’s art, culture and literary promotiol activities of both Kerala and Assam in particular, in coordition with Government of Kerala, Government of Assam.
