Pre-Ahom era ruins discovered in Gohpur

Gohpur, Dec 24 : A brick wall has become the centre of attraction for the people of greater Gohpur subdivision. A water well of pre-Ahom epoch was discovered by historian Dr Nityanda Gogoi recently. After getting information from the villagers of Hatijan Diparaghat in Gohpur subdivision, noted historian of Assam, Dr. Nityanda Gogoi, along with his colleague Dr. Haren Bhagawati and AASCSU (All Assam Scheduled Caste Students’ Union) leaders Bipul Hira, Bapdhan Das and Bishwa Das visited Hatijan Diparaghat on Saturday. Villagers of Hatijan Diparaghat have been in doubt over the historical significance of the brick wall since long.

Dr Gogoi verified the brick wall as belonging to the ancient pre- Ahom period and confirmed that it was a water well during pre-Ahom period of Assam. According to Dr Gogoi, the well was dug during the pre- Ahom era and is about 800 years old. For preserving the water well of pre-Ahom epoch, Dr. Gogoi urged the SDO (civil) of Gohpur subdivision, Dr. Indranoshee Das and the government authority do take necessary steps. Local people and AASCSU also demanded necessary steps for conserving the monument.
