Pre-Christmas celebration at Jorhat

 Jorhat, Dec 18: A Pre-Christmas Carol Nite was held recently at Barbheta Baptist Church, Jail Road ringing in the Christmas bells in the town with an evening full of melodious carols presented by the choir groups consisting of young and old to set the yuletide spirit. The programmes started with lighting of candles and offering prayers for world peace. Ren Anil Baruah, Pastor of Barbheta Baptist Church, Jorhat formally lit the candle as he led the Prayer for World Peace. While lighting the candle, he proclaimed the words of the Holy Bible reminding all present that Lord Jesus Christ was born to bring glory to God and peace to mankind, as was the theme of the programme. Prof A M Peters, Retd Principal of Jorhat Engineering College, Rev S Sharma and few other special invitees joined the lighting of the candles for World Peace.

The programme organised by the United Christian Forum, Jorhat was attended by a number of members of the Christian community of Jorhat representing various churches and Christian institutions and other invitees too. United Christian Forum: Jorhat is an umbrella organisation of several churches and Christian institutions of Jorhat which was constituted in 1996. 
The invited speaker for the event, Chaplain Bharat Keleng delivered the Christmas message. The programme was anchored by Liza Kennedy and Jaison Raj. Leeward Momin and Dr Sajib Borua coordited the event. In the group event, the youth choir representing Jorhat Baptist Church was awarded the Best Carol group while representative from the Nursing School under Jorhat Christian Medical Centre was ajudged as the Best Solo presentation.
In the beginning, Amio Baruah, President of United Christian Forum, Jorhat delivered the welcome address while Rajiv Marchand, Secretary of UCF offered the vote of thanks in the end. This was stated in a press release.
