Preparation  for Independence Day celebration on full swing in Jorhat

Jorhat: Hectic preparation is on for Independence Day celebration in Jorhat district. The district administration, police and other forces are on high alert and security has been beefed up in all the exit and entry points that connect to the main VIP thoroughfare of Jorhat city.

Moreover, river patrolling and patrolling along the Assam-Nagaland border by the police personnel from the Border Police Outpost battalion has been increased. Pillion riding has been restricted and night curfew has been imposed. Extra forces of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed at sensitive and vulnerable zones since July 30.

Meanwhile, preparation for parade by various forces like the CISF, CRPF, Jorhat Police, traffic branch, NCC from IAF battalion, Indian Army Battalion, Scouts and Guides is going on at the historic Kachari Maidan since the first week of the month while Assam Rifles sniffer dog squad has been pressed into action at the I-Day celebration venue to thwart any untoward incident by underground outfits.

Similar arrangements have been made at Teok Revenue Circle, Mariani Revenue Circle and Titabor subdivision under the supervision of Titabor subdivisional police officer Luna Sonowal, said sources.
