Preparations on for golden jubilee of Dhubri Mela Committee

Dhubri, March 15:  Brisk preparations got underway to celebrate the golden jubilee of  Dhubri Mela Committee with a 15-day Ashoka Austami Mela and Basanti Puja at Dhubri Mela Maidan here from March 24. To make the celebration memorable, Dhubri Mela Committee, which has been organizing the fair for the last 50 years at a stretch since 1968, will bring out a souvenir. Beside this, an elaborate arrangement has been done, including increasing the  number of stalls and felicitation to social workers who were rendering commendable service to the society in various fields in Dhubri town. The mela will be iugurated on March 24 by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner while rituals of Basanti Puja will to be performed at the maidan and  austami sn will take place along the banks of river Brahmaputra in the town on the following day.

For organizing the fair and to celebrate the golden jubilee smoothly, a meeting between the administration and committee, chaired by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anta Lal Gyani, was held at his office conference hall recently. Gyani took stock of the preparation of the fair and celebration of golden jubilee, and for peaceful celebration of the fair and austami sn, he instructed further important steps to be taken by different departments, including uninterrupted power supply, installation of CCTV cameras at different ghats and in the mela ground, elaborate security arrangements, setting up emergency medical unit, temporary arrangement for separate toilets and enclosures for women to change. He also instructed the Inland Water Transport officials to stop sailing of boats and vessels on the day of austami sn, an official informed.
