DIGBOI, January 24: The tiol Function Celebration Committee has been making untiring efforts to observe Republic Day on January 26 at the historic Jubilee playground in Digboi in Tinsukia district.
The R-Day ecelbration will kick off with floral tribute at Gandhi Samadhi near Digboi Press Club followed by unfurling of the tiol tricolour. At the Jubilee playground, following the hoisting of the tiol flag centrally, the guard of honour will be taken followed by parade and march past. There will be a series of events like felicitation and award ceremony, cultural presentation, fruit distribution among the patients at Digboi Community Health Centre and games and sports events.
Adequate security personnel have been deployed, including the local police and IOC (AOD), to ensure incident-free celebration. According to police sources, constant patrolling, mobile check post, and several other steps have been taken at various vulnerable locations, including oil and installations, to thwart subversive activities of the miscreants.
Meanwhile, Chandan Milli, Inspector of Digboi Police Station, told The Sentinel that enough resources had been activated to make the day a peaceful and remarkable one. He urged various socio-cultural organizations to remain vigilant and co-operate with the police in realizing the common objective without any untoward happenings.
However, according to sources, the movement of militants of the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA faction has been suspected in and around Digboi, Pengaree, Bordumsa, Margherita and Doomdoma.
